M&E Global is a defence contractor undertaking services on complex military equipment and aircraft for UK and US contractors. We have a fantastic opportunity for a Packing and Crating Specialist to join our team.

The Role
Based in Fairford, UK you’ll get to work alongside our dedicated workforce on a UK Military base.

Prior carpenter experience will be required, although additional training will be provided on site.

This role is a fantastic chance for you to further develop your skills as a corrosion Specialist , working on a diverse range of military equipment in an exciting environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and lay out work based on blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions.
  • Utilize SPIRES for Special Packaging Instructions to comply with all DoD Standards.
  • Measures, marks, and cut boards to specified size, using ruler, pencil and power saws.
  • Assembles and nails boards together, using hammer, power stapler, or nailing machine.
  • Builds shoring and bracing for asset transportation when required. Will utilize inbound blocking and bracing for wood recycle, when applicable.
  • Repairs damaged containers by replacing damaged parts, using hand tools.
  • Salvages used crating by removing nails from board with hammer, nail puller, or crowbar and by sawing ends with portable electric handsaw.
  • Operates power wood-working machines to include cross, band, and table saws, planers, router, power planer, and trade associated hand tools.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of workshop tools and machinery to include sharpening of saws using hand file or power tools.
  • Ensures all tool, personal protective equipment, and clothing issued remain safe, secure and serviceable, reporting any deficiencies.
  • Inspects Hazardous Materials within the assigned work center and coordinates with the appropriate office for the disposal of HAZMAT when required.
  • Conforms to Amentum/USAF safety, hazardous material, and quality standards.
  • Complies with WPM program and reports/tracks wood usage.
  • Prepares freight offered for shipment to include packing, crating, weighing, marking, labelling, securing and documenting cargo.
  • Follows all prescribed regulations, instructions, technical orders and procedures in preparation and handling of cargo.
  • Inventories, accepts, inspects, processes and documents cargo offered for transportation.
  • Reports discrepancies and damage to supervisor immediately.
  • Prepares and submits all required shipping documents. Assigns Transportation Control Numbers (TCN’s) to cargo. Maintains a TCN log.
  • Assists in loads/unloads all cargo, 463L pallets, containers and trucks/trailers delivering or picking up from the site.
  • Follows TMO procedures to ensure hazardous materials are properly labelled, packaged, inspected and certified.
  • Receives and sends small packages via commercial transport.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
